Adding custom keyboard shortcuts to Airfoil for Mac

Airfoil for Mac comes with helpful keyboard shortcuts pre-configured in the app’s menus. If you wish to modify these shortcuts or add additional shortcuts, you can do so with a little-known feature of MacOS

Apple maintains an article on keyboard shortcut creation on their Support site. Below, we’ve recapped it and included additional information.

To get started with custom keyboard shortcuts, just follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Apple () menu, and choose the System Settings item.
  2. In the System Settings window, click on the Keyboard item in the left-hand list.
  3. Click the Keyboard Shortcuts button.
  4. Click on the App Shortcuts list item in the resulting sheet. This will display custom shortcuts that are configured for both the entire system (under “All Applications”) and any individual applications.
  5. Click on the Add (+) button.
  6. Use the Application pop up to select Airfoil for Mac.
  7. In the Menu Title field, enter the exact name, including capitalization, of the menu command you want to control with a keyboard shortcut.

As an example, we've set a keyboard shortcut to quickly display Airfoil’s Advanced Speaker Options window:

  8. Select the Keyboard Shortcut field, then press the keyboard shortcut that you'd like to use to trigger the specified command.

That’s it! If you’ve configured things correctly, you’ll now be able to use your new custom keyboard shortcut.
