Below, you’ll find more details on the currently known issues, as well as details on how to work around them.
Due to a bug in MacOS 26 (Tahoe), applications playing audio to multiple devices could be silenced when SoundSource is running. This can happen if those output devices have mismatched sample rates.
SoundSource (version 5.8.7 and later) will detect this potential issue and attempt to avoid it, by matching the secondary output device to the default output’s sample rate. If SoundSource can’t make that match work, it will stop audio processing for the affected application and show a warning triangle (⚠️) next to it in the main window.
Clicking the triangle will reveal this dialog:
It’s possible to avoid this issue by making sure all audio devices in use are set to a common sample rate. You can verify and change the sample rates for your audio devices using Apple’s Audio MIDI Setup utility.
When the sample rates for all relevant devices match, all audio will be captured and heard as expected.
In certain audio device configurations, a bug in Tahoe could lead to lost audio from FaceTime, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, or the new Phone app. In SoundSource 5.8.8 and later, an alternate capture method is automatically used to work around this potential issue. As a result, audio should be captured as expected regardless of your audio device configuration.
We are in contact with Apple about these bugs, as the necessary fixes must be made in updates to MacOS itself. When updates to Tahoe are shipped to the public and we can verify the issues are resolved, we’ll update this article along with our always helpful Status page. We’ll also post to our blog.
