Piezo 1.6.0

Released on 5/7/19

  • The reliability of audio recording under heavy loads has been increased.

  • Improvements and interface modifications have been made to Piezo's Source selector, as well as the audio device icon.

  • The Audio Capture Engine (ACE) backend has been updated to 10.0.1, for the most robust and reliable audio capture.

  • An issue where Piezo's popover could incorrectly display multiple connectors on MacOS 10.14 (Mojave) has been corrected.

  • A ridiculously rare bug (known internally as the “wiggle freeze”), where jiggling windows with skillful timing could cause the Settings popover to get stuck out of position, has been fixed.

Piezo 1.5.12

  • Audio Capture Engine (ACE) has been updated to 10.0, for the most robust and reliable audio capture.

  • Some small improvements have been made for those using VoiceOver. The Source popup menu now reads out the currently selected Source, and a readout of the current recording filename is also now available to VO users.

  • The support form in Piezo's Help menu has been updated.

Piezo 1.5.11

  • Audio Capture Engine (ACE) has been updated to 9.1.2, with full MacOS 10.14 (Mojave) compatibility and a fix for capturing audio from Voice Memos and other ports from iOS to Mac (“Marzipan” apps).

  • Piezo now better handles error reporting when attempting to capture from apps which require the ACE extra.

  • Piezo's source selector now behaves better with sources requiring ACE.

  • VoiceOver has been updated to work around a change Apple made on MacOS 10.14. Menu items will again properly reflect the most recent action taken.

Piezo 1.5.10

  • Audio Capture Engine (ACE) has been updated to 9.1.0, with initial MacOS 10.14 (Mojave) compatibility.

  • Piezo now has full VoIP capture support for “Linphone”, “Telegram”, and “Zoiper 5”.

  • Changes made by Spotify have led to ACE being required to capture audio from the Spotify app. Piezo now alerts the user to this requirement when necessary.

  • The VU meter needles have been updated to appear better on Retina displays.

  • Another update to License window has been made.

  • Piezo now has compatibility with MacOS 10.14 (Mojave).

  • Audio Capture Engine (ACE) is the new name for Rogue Amoeba's audio capture backend (formerly called “Instant On”). ACE has been updated to version 9.0, with several small fixes and improvements.

  • Piezo now has full VoIP capture support for “LINE.app”.

  • VoIP support for GoToMeeting has been updated to support all versions, including new versions from LogMeIn.

  • The License window has been updated and improved.

Piezo 1.5.6

  • Instant On has been updated to version 8.4.5, with important compatibility fixes for Skype 8, along with other small fixes.

  • Piezo now has full VoIP capture support for “Scopia Desktop”.

  • Audio capture now works as expected when a device with very high sample rates (above 192 kHz) is in use.

  • Audio playback with single-channel devices has been corrected to properly provide both channels.

  • Piezo's popover now behaves as expected on MacOS 10.13 (High Sierra).

Piezo 1.5.5

Piezo 1.5.4

  • Instant On has been updated to version 8.4.4, with important crash fixes for MacOS 10.13, as well as improved logging.

  • We've fixed an issue where play-thru of application sources did not function correctly if Instant On was not installed.

  • Enhancements: Several important improvements have been made to improve the way Piezo behaves for VoiceOver users.

  • Piezo's preliminary compatibility with MacOS 10.13 (High Sierra) has been improved. We still strongly recommend users stick with a fully supported version of MacOS for now, but if you're on High Sierra, make sure you update to the latest Piezo (and the latest Instant On).

  • Visual and reliability improvements have been made to our Extras installer window.

Piezo 1.5.3

  • Piezo now has full VoIP capture support for Amazon Chime, Jabber, Microsoft Teams, QQ, and WeChat.

  • Instant On has been updated to version 8.4.3, with improvements to audio capture from VMWare Fusion, FaceTime, and Flash running in Safari.

  • Play-thru of audio from app sources has been modified to reduce latency. The Play-Thru menu item has also been improved for better clarity.

  • The audio capture backend has been updated to be more robust, and this new style capture is now used by default when Instant On is installed. Users shouldn't notice any changes.

  • Piezo now has (extremely) preliminary compatibility with MacOS 10.13 (High Sierra). We still strongly recommend users stick with a fully supported version of MacOS for now.

  • Many small improvements have been added to make reading the Help manual easier.

  • Piezo now requires MacOS 10.10 (Yosemite) or higher. If you're still on 10.9 (or lower), be sure to see our Legacy page.

Piezo 1.5.2

  • Adjustments have been made to enable FaceTime to be captured on MacOS 10.12 (Sierra).

  • Several minor corrections have been made for the “Install Extras” window when using Full Keyboard Access.

  • Due to changes made by Apple, capturing audio from iTunes now requires Instant On. Piezo has been updated to handle this as needed.

Piezo 1.5.1

Piezo 1.5.0

  • Piezo now uses the Instant On extra to capture audio from already-running apps, as well as difficult to capture apps like Safari, FaceTime, and more.

  • Animation of the VU meters has been improved.

  • The software update mechanism (powered by Sparkle) now runs securely over HTTPS.

  • Other minor fixes and improvements have been made.

  • Piezo is now available exclusively via direct download. We have chosen to cease distribution of Piezo through the Mac App Store at this time. Piezo now includes details for users who purchased via the Mac App Store to migrate to the direct version, free of charge.

Piezo 1.2.8

  • A bug in Piezo 1.2.7, caused the Reveal File button not to properly appear after recording. This is fixed in Piezo 1.2.8.

  • A bug in Piezo 1.2.7 also caused the Reveal button in the Preferences window to fail. This too is fixed in Piezo 1.2.8.

  • The default apps list has been modified, to remove applications which are no longer supported due to changes made on Apple's end.

  • This release is only available as a direct download, due to issues with Mac App Store submissions.

  • An issue where Gatekeeper would incorrectly complain about the app when first launching on 10.10.4 and 10.11 has been resolved.

  • An emergency update, necessitated by immediate changes Apple has made to their Gatekeeper system, restores compatibility on Mac OS X 10.9.5 and higher.

  • Piezo now has initial compatibility with Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite).

  • Audio capture from all versions of Firefox has been restored.

  • Piezo now has initial compatibility with Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks).

  • Piezo now has full VoIP capture support for Microsoft Lync.

  • At this time, capture from Safari on Mavericks is no longer possible. To capture web-based audio, use another browser such as Google Chrome or Firefox as your source in Piezo.

  • Piezo now requires Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and up.

  • This update fixes interface glitches on Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) with the counter and file name.

  • The License window has been overhauled, with HTML. Neat!

  • The app now has a hidden "Check for News" option, accessible by pressing option while in the Fission menu.

  • A rare crash, caused by the (very old) SCPlugin has been worked around.

  • Several other small improvements have been made.

  • This release was available solely for Direct purchasers.

Piezo 1.2.2

  • Piezo 1.2.2 has been updated with high-resolution artwork, for full, gorgeous display on Retina Macs.

  • Piezo now features an HTML-based About box, for better Retina display.

  • A rare crash which could occur when capturing audio from certain oddly-behaving apps has been corrected.

  • Several other small improvements have been made.

Piezo 1.2.1

  • An issue where Piezo could not capture audio from several Apple applications on Mac OS X 10.8 has been fixed. Piezo is now fully Mountain Lion-ready.

  • A bug which could cause Piezo to crash when adjusting the Preferences window has been fixed.

  • Piezo no longer checks if an app is quarantined on Mac OS X 10.8, as the bug this was working around has been fixed in the OS.

  • The Factory Reset debugging function has been fixed on Mac OS X 10.8.

  • Piezo's icon has been updated (and tweaked) for full Retina compatibility, and throughout the site.

Piezo 1.2

  • Piezo now tracks Skype's input and output devices, for easier VoIP recording.

  • Piezo now features a Play-thru toggle in the Record menu, allowing the user to toggle audio play-thru on or off.

  • Piezo's preferences now feature a Reveal button, to show the Recording destination.

  • Piezo now properly handles periods in file names.

  • Piezo now better handles problems when the recording folder is unavailable, including defaulting back to ~/Music/Piezo.

  • Dashboard and the iPhone Simulator are now automatically excluded, with a suitable warning message for users.

  • Piezo now shows a useful error message when attempting to capture from a quarantined source app.

  • Piezo now has a one-time sign-up for the Rogue Amoeba mailing list.

  • The About box now indicates if a build has come from the App Store.

  • The license window no longer includes the app's price.

  • This update fixes several rare issues with recording from Skype. Recording from all versions of Skype (including both Skype 5 and Skype 2.8) is now fully supported.

  • Piezo now properly finalizes all AAC recordings, fixing an extremely uncommon bug that could cause long audio recordings made on slower machines to fail in rare circumstances.

  • Piezo now defaults to recording 256 kbps MP3 files, for optimal compatibility.

  • Several additional popovers were added to improve understanding of AAC finalizations.

Piezo 1.1
