Information for:
Running test releases of Piezo

Test release basics

Many users want to test pre-release or beta versions of our software. To make that possible, we offer test releases with early access to new features and improvements.

A test release is typically made available in the weeks before an official update ships. We vet these releases internally and expect them to be suitable for general use, but they aren’t recommended for production systems.

Accessing test releases

To access test releases for Piezo, opt in from the Settings window. Switch the Check for setting from its default Official Releases option to Official and Test Releases.

The Settings window configured to receive both official and test releases.

When set to Official and Test Releases, the software will alert you when a test release is available and give you the option to update to it. Test releases are delivered through Piezo's built-in software update system, just like official releases.

Reverting to official releases

If you ever wish to revert to using official public releases, that's easy as well. Follow these steps:

  1. Delete the test release by placing it in the Trash.

  2. Download the current public release from our front page.

  3. Launch the official release and open the Settings window.

  4. Switch the Check for setting back to Official Releases.

You'll now be back to using an official release, and the software update system will no longer inform you of new test releases.
